Team Notes

The New Jersey Devils concluded their 2020-21 regular season at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, but were defeated 4-2. The Devils scored the game’s first two tallies, but the Flyers answered back with four consecutive goals.

Per NHL Pr, tonight’s contest was just the third time that both the Devils and Flyers concluded their respective seasons against one another (4/13/1997 & 4/7/1985).

Additionally, it’s the fifth time that both teams did not clinch a playoff berth: 2020-21, 2018-19, 2016-17, 2014-15 & 2012-13 (Per, NHL Pr).

The Devils were 0/2 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill.

Jersey’s team finished the campaign 4-3-0-1 vs Philadelphia this season and 2-1-0-1 on the road against the Flyers.

New Jersey was 48% in the face-off circle (21/44).

The Devils were outshot, 31-25.

Player Notes

Pavel Zacha earned his 17th goal for the 2020-21 campaign and opened the scoring for the Devils (3:29) in the first period.

The 2015 sixth overall selection is the first Czech Republic born skater since Jaromir Jagr in 2013-14 to lead New Jersey in points. Additionally, he’s the first skater 24 years of age or younger that led the Devils in points at the season’s conclusion since Zacha Parise (45g-49a—90PTS) in 2008-09 (Per, NHL Pr).

Janne Kuokkanen tallied his eighth goal for the season, and ended a four-game pointless streak (5/1 at PHI).

Nico Hischier earned his fifth helper for the season, while Jesper Bratt recorded his 23rd assist.

Bratt’s assist also marked the Swedish native’s 30th point (7g-23a), which meant that the 22-year-old has recorded 30-more points in all four of his NHL seasons since 2017-18.

Yegor Sharangovich earned his 14th assist for the season and led the Devils in points since April 10th – the final month of the season – with 12PTS (7g-5a).

Will Butcher tallied his 10th assist for 2020-21, and seven of those assists were earned since April 10th in 14 games played. That ranked second for New Jersey blueliners over that span (Damon Severson, 8 points).

Goaltender Scott Wedgewood earned the start between the pipes tonight and looked sharp between the pipes all night. Wedgewood recorded 27 saves.
