New Jersey lost, 3-5, in their first game of the 2018 calendar year at Prudential Center in front of a sold out crowd at Prudential Cential. It was the sixth consecutive sellout for the club.

The Devils’ extended their season-long, win-less streak to six games, Dec. 30-Jan. 13.  The club’s last win came on Dec. 27 vs. DET (3-1 W).  They have three regulation losses and three OT/SO losses during that span.

Since Dec. 29, New Jersey has been out-scored, 17-26, by their opponents.  They have surrendered 3 or more goals in each of the six consecutive losses, averaging 4.33 goals-against per game.

  • New Jersey gave up just 12 goals in the six games prior to this most recent skid from Dec. 14-27.

The Devils and Flyers will complete their 2017-18 season-series within one month.  The clubs will face-off agains on Jan. 20 at Wells Fargo Center (1PM, MSG+, TOJN). (also; Feb. 1 @ NJD, Feb. 13 @ PHI).

New Jersey out-shot Philadelphia, 29-25, but were limited to just five shots in the second period.

The Devils were 1-6 on the power play tonight and were 0-2 on the penalty kill. It was the first time the Devils allowed multiple goals while shorthanded since Nov. 20 at Minnesota (2-4 PK).


Jesper Bratt scored his 11th goal of the season, 27th point, to give New Jersey a 1-0 lead at 5:43 of the first period. Bratt has points in three of his past four games (1G-2A), Jan. 2-13.  It was his first goal in seven games (Dec. 18 vs. ANA).

Nico Hischier (primary) and Taylor Hall (secondary) notched the assists on Bratt’s marker.  Hall also assisted Palmieri on his power play in the second period.  Hall has eight points (3G-5A) over his last four games, Jan. 2-13.  Hischier notched his 19th assist of the season and has three points (1G-2A) over his last four games, Jan. 2-13.

Hall has three-consecutive multi-point games:
Jan. 4 – one goal, two assists
Jan. 7 – one goal, one assist
Jan. 13 – 2 assists

Kyle Palmieri scored his seventh goal of the season to put the Devils ahead, 2-1, in the second period.  It was his fifth power play goal of the season, which ties him with Taylor Hall and Brian Boyle for the team lead in PPGs.  The right-wing has three goals over the last eight games, Dec. 23-Jan. 13.

Will Butcher (primary) and Taylor Hall (secondary) notched the assists on Palmieri’s goal. Butcher has three assists over the last four games.

Cory Schneider made his 33rd appearance of the season.  He is now 5-5-1 in his 11 career games against Philadelphia. He stopped 20 of 25 shots.

Drew Stafford returned to the lineup after being a healthy scratch over the last seven games.  He scored New Jersey’s third goal of the evening. It was his first goal since Nov. 9 vs. EDM.
