  • The Devils fell, 0-5, at Gila River Arena to the Arizona Coyotes to finish their 2017-18 season-series, 1-1-0. The Devils won, 4-3, in their first matchup of the season, Oct. 28 at Prudential Center.
  • The Devils have lost each of their past two visits to Arizona, however they still own a 6-2-0 record against the Coyotes since the 2014-15 season.
  • New Jersey is 3-3-2 (1-2-1 on road) against the Pacific Division and is 7-5-2 (4-3-1 road) thus far vs. the Western Conference.
  • New Jersey faces Columbus to conclude their three-game, road-trip, Tuesday at Nationwide Arena (7PM, MSG+ / TOJN) for the first of four meetings this season. It is a home-and-home set for both the Devils and Blue Jackets. (Dec. 8 at NJD, 7PM).
  • NJ and ARI each fired 27 shots on goal.  Former Devils’ goaltender, Scott Wedgewood, stopped all-27 Devils’ shots for his first shutout at the NHL-level since, Mar. 24: NJD 3 vs. PIT 0, 39-save-shutout.
  • Keith Kinkaid started in net against the Coyotes for the first time in his NHL career (2nd appearance).  He stopped 22 of 27 and fell to 5-2-1 in 2017-18.  Despite it being his first-full game vs. ARI, made appearance in 16-17 & credited with loss, Kinkaid is 0-2-0 in his career against the Yotes. It was just his second loss of the season and first since Oct. 20 vs. SJS.
  • Blueliner Damon Severson led all Devils skaters with 20:59 of action. Travis Zajac logged a season-high, 19:44, tonight.  Zajac was 58.8% (10-17) in the faceoff circle.
  • Drew Staffordhad five shots on goal, tying his previous season-high (Oct. 17 vs. TB, 5).
  • Taylor Hall and John Moore each had two penalty minutes.  New Jersey was 2-2 on the penalty-kill tonight and are 17-19 (89.5%) over the past six games, Nov. 22-Dec. 2.

  • Devils’ EVP/GM Ray Shero joined MSG Networks’ Deb Placey during the pre-game show to further discuss his most recent trade, acquiring Sami Vatanen and a cond. third-round pick from Anaheim in exchange for Adam Henrique, Joseph Blandisi and NJ’s third-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. Interview can be found here:
  • When asked if the Vatanen trade was an easy decision or difficult…
    • “I think they are all difficult.  From a hockey standpoint, number one, you want to make the right move for your team in both the short and long-term.  And no matter what, you are always dealing with people…in this case Adam Henrique or Joe Blandisi. Those are things that are always going to come into play. These players are all people with families that need to move.
    • “But in terms of the actual job that I have to do or any GM has to do is make the decision that we thought was best for our hockey team.”
  • “With Adam Henrique being an unrestricted free agent a year from now, I don’t know what the expectation is going to be on his end. Maybe some of that [Henrique being a fan-favorite] comes into play but certainly the idea of getting a defenseman, like Vatanen, that’s under contract for two-more years is part of the decision.”
  • Coach John Hynes on Zacha being a healthy -scratch in tonight’s game, “”I just think it’s continued growth for him . He took a couple steps of doing things the right way. I think there are some parts of his game we’ve liked. He’s been a little bit more aggressive on the forecheck. He’s been harder in his battles. Now, we need to grow onto that into impacting the game a little bit more offensively and consistently.”
