Team Notes

  • The Devils finished their season series, 3-1-0, vs. Carolina and were 1-1-0 at Prudential Center. The club is now 15-15-6 at home this season. Despite the defeat, the Devils are 10-4-1 at Prudential Center vs. the Hurricanes since the 2009-10 season.
  • Tomorrow closes-out New Jersey’s 16th of 18 sets of back-to-back games in 2016-17. The Devils are 5-7-4 in first games and are 7-5-3 in second games of back-to-backs.
  • With the loss, New Jersey is 10-12-3 vs. Metropolitan Division rivals and is 17-24-7 against Eastern Conference opponents in 2016-17.
  • The Devils out-shot the Hurricanes, 10-7, in the third period, but were out-shot by Carolina, 28-27, through three periods.
  • New Jersey was 0-2 on the power play tonight. It was the first time in six games that the club was held without a power play goal.
  • The Devils also managed to eliminate a Carolina five-on-three power play for 39 seconds in the second period. The Devils are 6-9 this season when facing a five-on-three deficit.

Player Notes

  • Travis Zajac scored his 14th goal of the season to tie the game at one apiece at 17:03 of the second period. The goal ties his goal-total from last season. He was 17 for 24 (71%) in the faceoff circle.
  • Taylor Hall had the lone assist on Zajac’s marker and has tied Kyle Palmieri for the team lead in points. It is the fifth time in his seven season NHL career that he has reached the 50 point mark. Hall leads New Jersey with 32 assists on the season. He has points in each of his last three games (1g-2a).
  • Cory Schneider made his 54th start of the season and stopped 25 of 28 shots to fall to 20-24-10 on the season.
  • Andy Greene led all Devils’ with 21:03 TOI in his 699th career NHL game. It was announced today that he was selected as a Masterton candidate for the second straight season by the Devils’ chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association
