Team Notes

  • New Jersey concluded its four-game Western Conference road trip 1-3-0. The Devils are now 3-6-2 on the road and 9-6-3 overall.
  • It was the first time New Jersey has been shut out by an opponent this season. The last time the Devils were shut out was Jan. 14, 2016 at Col. (0-3).
  • This was the Devils’ first loss at SAP Center since  Nov. 23, 2013 (2-1, two games). The Devils are 2-4-1 vs. San Jose overall since the 2013-14 season.
  • The Devils are now 4-3-1 vs. the Western Conference and are 2-3-0 vs. the Pacific Division.
  • New Jersey has lost three consecutive games for the first time in 2016-17.
  • New Jersey surrendered a shorthanded goal for the first time this season at 1:59 of the first period. The Devils were 0-3 on the power play tonight and are 0-29 over the last nine games.
  • The Devils were 4-5 (80%) on the penalty kill tonight and are 10-11 (90.9%) over their last five games.
  • The Devils were successful facing a Sharks’ 5-on-3 power play for 29 seconds. New Jersey is 2-2 when being shorthanded in a 5-on-3 situation this season.
  • The Devils faced a season-high 41 shots against this season. It is the only time this season that New Jersey has faced more than 40 shots in a game. The Devils had 26 shots.
  • Head Coach John Hynes coached his 100th NHL game.

Player Notes

  • Keith Kinkaid made his fourth start of the season and lost in regulation for the first time in 2016-17, falling to 2-1-1 overall. He stopped a season-high 37 of 41 (.902 save %) shots.
  • Andy Greene skated in a season-high 27:18 tonight. He also blocked seven shots.
  •  Damon Severson had a season-high 25:46 TOI.
  • Travis Zajac was 14 for 24 (58.3%) in the faceoff circle.
  • Kyle Quincey and Vernon Fiddler led New Jersey with three shots each.
  • Kyle Palmieri (upper body soreness) did not play.
