Team Notes

  • New Jersey fell to 2-1-0=4pts in its season series vs. the Rangers.
  • The Devils are winless in three straight (0-1-2=2pts) for the first time since Jan. 4-8 (0-3-0). 
  • Despite the loss, New Jersey has points in seven of its last nine games (5-2-2=12pts). & has allowed just 16 goals-against during that stretch.
  • The Devils are 2-2-1=5pts over their last five road games and are 14-11-3=31pts away from Prudential Center overall.
  • The Devils are now 7-8-2=16pts vs. the Metropolitan Division this season, including 3-6-0=6pts on the road.
  • Tonight’s contest opened the club’s sixth of 12 sets of back-to-back games. The Devils are 2-3-1 in first games and 2-1-2 in second games when playing on consecutive dates.
  • The Devils did not have a power play opportunity tonight for the first time this season/since Mar. 10, 2015 at Minnesota.
  • New Jersey was 5/5 on the penalty kill and is 16/16 over the past four games.
  • The Rangers out shot the Devils, 37-28.

Player Notes

  • Cory Schneider (35 saves) took the loss in goal. He’s 6-3-1 in his last ten starts & 23-16-6 overall. Schneider has now allowed two goals or less in 30 of his last 38 starts since Oct. 29.
  • Travis Zajac scored his second shorthanded goal of the season/eighth overall with 2:17 remaining in regulation to cut New York’s leads to 2-1. He now has points in a season-high (tie, Nov. 3-8, 2g-2a-4pts) three straight games (1g-2a-3pts). Zajac now has seven SHG in his career, tying Ilya Kovalchuk and Jay Pandolfo for ninth in Devils’ history. He was also 15/24 (62.5%) in the face-off circle tonight.
  • Adam Henrique recorded the only assist on Zajac’s goal and leads New Jersey in shorthanded scoring with 2g-1a-3pts (tie, Zajac). He has 1g-2a-3pts over the past four games & ranks fourth on the club with 17g-17a-34pts overall.
  • Adam Larsson saw a season-high 28:33 of action and led the Devils with five blocked shots.
  • John Moore registered a team-leading/season-high (tie, Dec. 20 at Boston) four hits.
