The New Jersey Devils have released the schedule for the events between Saturday, February 6 and Tuesday, February 9 that will comprise the celebration of legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur’s No. 30 jersey retirement.
The “Martin Brodeur Jersey Retirement presented by Prudential” will culminate with a special on-ice ceremony starting at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9 when the iconic No. 30 will be raised to the Prudential Center rafters. The Devils-Oilers game will follow the ceremony with a start time of 8:08 p.m., and doors will open at 4:30 p.m.
Hosted by “The Voice of Hockey,” Mike “Doc” Emrick, the ceremony will feature Brodeur surrounded by his family, as a number of special guests pay tribute to his illustrious career in New Jersey. Among those scheduled to be in attendance include: the Devils’ legendary trio of retired numbers, Ken Daneyko (No. 3), Scott Stevens (No. 4) and Scott Niedermayer (No. 27); Devils Stanley Cup-winning coaches Jacques Caron, Jacques Lemaire and Larry Robinson; the widow of Pat Burns, Line; and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.
On Monday, February 8, Prudential Center will host “An Evening With Marty” as the Devils face the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The event will include the unveiling of “The Salute,” the statue created by sculptor and New Jersey native Jon Krawczyk and commissioned by the Devils to honor Brodeur forever at Prudential Center. The evening will also include a special Q&A with Brodeur and a viewing party of the game on the center-hung scoreboard at the arena. A limited number of tickets are available to the public for purchase for this exclusive event. To purchase tickets, visit NewJerseyDevils.com/Brodeur.
Earlier in the day at 1:30 p.m., the Devils and Brodeur will launch the Denis Brodeur Sports Photography Program at Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City in honor of Brodeur’s late father, an acclaimed photographer for the Montreal Canadiens. Local dignitaries, Devils’ alumni and community members will be on hand to help dedicate the program. The event, which will take place at the Charlie Heger Ice Rink in Jersey City, will be followed by a Learn to Skate clinic for local youth hockey players at the rink.
On Saturday, February 6 at 11 a.m., the Devils and Brodeur will host a youth hockey clinic at the Devils’ practice facility at Prudential Center, where approximately 20 local skaters and goalies will get personal instruction from one of the best in the sport. Brodeur will then participate in a ceremonial puck drop as the Devils take on the Capitals at 1 p.m. at Prudential Center. To purchase tickets, please visit NewJerseyDevils.com/tickets.
