Team Notes

  • The Devils opened the regular season at Prudential Center for the first time since Oct. 8, 2011 (3-0 loss to Philadelphia). New Jersey is now 19-9-5 in season-openers all-time and is 17-10-6 in home-openers, including 2-5-2 at The Rock.
  • New Jersey played a season-opening game vs. the Winnipeg/Atlanta franchise for the second time (also Oct. 2, 1999, W 4-1).
  • The Jets outshot the Devils, 30-21, overall.
  • New Jersey won 34/60 (56.7%) face-offs tonight.

Player Notes

  • Cory Schneider (27 saves) started his third consecutive season-opener for New Jersey (1-2-0).
  • Jiri Tlusty scored a power play goal in his Devils’ debut/vs. his former team. He scored a career-high six PPGs last season.
  • Mike Cammalleri collected the primary assist on Tlusty’s goal and became the first player in team history to wear the no. 13.
  • Lee Stempniak also picked up an assist on Tlusty’s tally. Stempniak played 18 regular season games & four post-season contests with Winnipeg last season following a trade from the New York Rangers on March 1.
  • Andy Greene skated as captain for the first time and led the club in time on ice with 23:47.
  • Six players (Sergey Kalinin, John Moore, Kyle Palmieri, David Schlemko, Stempniak and Tlusty)  made their Devils’ debut, which tied a team-record. It had happened three times previously: 2007-08 (Aaron Asham, Niclas Bergfors, Mike Mottau, Vitaly Vishnevski, Dainius Zubrus), 1989-90 (Neil Brady, Viacheslav Fetisov, Walt Poddubny, Reijo Ruotsalainen, Sergei Starikov, Sylvain Turgeon) & 1984-85 (Uli Hiemer, Kirk Muller, David Pichette, Rich Preston, Doug Sulliman, Mitch Wilson). -credit Elias Sports Bureau
  • Palmieri joined Jim Dowd as just the second player from New Jersey to ever skate for the Devils.
  • Kalinin was making his NHL debut; he registered one shot on goal and was 5/8 (62.5%) in the face-off circle.
  • Jordin Tootoo and Damon Severson recorded a team-high three shots on goal.
