Game Notes

  • New Jersey has won a season-high three straight games and has points in seven of its past eight games (6-1-1). The Devils are now 9-4-2=20pts in their last 15 games after going winless in the their first seven (0-4-3=3pts).
  • The Devils have won back-to-back games in overtime. Wednesday’s victory  4-3 OT win at Anaheim snapped the club’s ten-game losing streak in overtime/shootouts (last win March 10, 2013, vs. Winnipeg, 3-2 SO).
  • New Jersey is now 3-4-3 against the Western Conference this season.
  • Los Angeles out shot New Jersey 35-15 overall on  Thursday. The Devils recorded a season-low two shots on goal in the first period.
  • Cory Schneider made a season-high 34 saves Thursday at Los Angeles and earned his second win of the season (October 19 vs. New York Rangers). He’s allowed just one goal in each of his last three starts (1-1-1) and is fifth in the NHL with a 1.87 goals-against average.
  • Martin Brodeur (22 saves) extended his winning streak to five games Wednesday at Anaheim and earned the 67th OT victory of his NHL career. He’s 7-1-0 with 2 shutouts, a 1.38 goals-against average and .942 save percentage since October 26.
  • Jaromir Jagr scored the overtime game-winner on Thursday, the 690th goal of his NHL career, to tie his former teammate Mario Lemieux  for ninth place on the NHL’s goal-scoring list. He now trails Lemieux (690-1033-1723) by just 17pts for seventh-place on the league’s all-time scoring list.
  • It was Jagr’s 121st career game-winning goal, tying Gordie Howe for the NHL record. 
  • Jagr scored in overtime for the 18th time in his career to extend his NHL record. Patrik Elias, Sergei Fedorov, Ilya Kovalchuk and Mats Sundin are tied for second with 15 career OT goals.
  • Jagr now has goals in a team season-high three consecutive games (4g).
  • Marek Zidlicky and Dainius Zubrus assisted on Jagr’s goal. Zidlicky now has points in back-to-back games, while Zubrus now has 1g-5a-6pts in the last six games.
  • Ryan Carter also scored for the Devils on Thursday, his third of the season.
  • Michael Ryder is expected to appear in his 700th NHL game tonight.
  • Damien Brunner was a healthy scratch for the first time this season on Thursday. Mattias Tedenby returned to the lineup after being scratched for the previous three games.

Devils vs. Sharks

  • Tonight’s game between the Devils and the Sharks is the first of two meetings between the teams this season, and the only contest to be played at SAP Center at San Jose.
  • The teams are facing-off for the first time since Oct. 21, ’11, a 4-3 San Jose victory at Prudential Center. Ryane Clowe had 1g-1a and recorded the game-determining goal for the Sharks in that contest.
  • New Jersey is playing in San Jose for the fist time since October 27, 2010 (L, 2-5).
  • The Devils lead the all-time series 17-9-3, including a 7-5-1 mark in the previous 13 games played in San Jose.
  • New Jersey won, 3-0, in the last regular season meeting at Staples Center on October 25, 2011. Dainius Zubrus scored two goals, Andy Greene had a pair of assists and Johan Hedberg stopped all 31 shots he faced to record the shutout.
  • Jaromir Jagr leads all New Jersey skaters in career scoring vs. the Sharks with 12g-20a-32pts in 26 games, while Joe Thornton has 18g-24a-42pts in 34 games vs. the Devils to lead San Jose.
  • Martin Brodeur is 10-7-2 with a 2.47 goals-against average and .895 save-percentage in 19 career games vs. the Sharks. Cory Schneider was 0-2-1 with a 2.93 GAA and .902 save-percentage in three games vs. San Jose last season and is 3-3-1 with a 3.54 GAA &  .902 save-percentage in seven career games. Antti Niemi is 2-1-0 with a 1.91 GAA and .920 save-percentage in 3 career games vs. New Jersey.
