New Jersey’s 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday gave the team points in five of its past six games (4-1-1). The Devils are now 7-4-2=16pts in their last 13 games after going winless in the their first seven (0-4-3=3pts).
New Jersey is opening a three-game road trip tonight, all vs. Western Conference opponents. The Devils are 1-4-3 against the West this season.
Tonight, the Devils will open their sixth of 22 sets of back-to-back games. New Jersey is 1-3-1 in first games and 1-1-3 in second games when playing on consecutive dates.
New Jersey’s penalty-kill unit is 17/18 (94.4%) over the past four games and is 25/27 (92.6%) over the last six. The Devils have allowed just two power play goals at Prudential Center this season and are ranked #1 in the NHL at home (26/28, 92.9%) and third (59/68, 86.8%) overall.
Martin Brodeur (27 saves) extended his winning streak to four games on Saturday vs. Pittsburgh. He’s 6-1-0 with 2 shutouts a 1.15 goals-against average and .952 save-percentage since October 26.
Jaromir Jagr scored twice on Saturday, his first multiple-goal game since March 7 at Los Angeles. He now has 688g-1016a-1704pts in his NHL career and trails his former teammate Mario Lemieux (690g-1033a-1723pts) by just two goals for ninth place on the NHL’s goal scoring list and by 19pts for seventh-place on the league’s all-time scoring list.
Jagr scored his 120th career game-winning goal on November 10 vs. Nashville and is now just one behind Gordie Howe (121) for the NHL record. Jagr netted his 119th career game-winner on Oct. 29 vs. Tampa Bay, passing Phil Esposito (118) for 2nd place all-time.
Andy Greene scored his second goal of the season on Saturday and now has 1g-3a-4pts in his last five games.
Adam Larsson scored his first career game-winner Saturday. It was his first regular-season goal since November 26, 2011 vs. the New York Islanders.
Dainius Zubrus posted a pair of assists Saturday night and now has 1g-3a-4pts in the last four games.
Travis Zajac assisted on Larsson’s tally on Saturday and has 1g-2a-3pts over his past four games.
Jagr, Zajac and Zubrus each posted a team season-best +4 mark on Saturday.
Devils vs. Ducks
Tonight’s game between the Devils and Ducks marks the first of two meetings between the clubs this season, and the only contest to be played at Honda Center.
New Jersey leads the all-time series 15-8-1, but the series is tied 6-6-1 in 13 games played in Anaheim.
New Jersey won, 3-2, in the shootout the last time the teams faced-off on February 17, 2012 at Prudential Center. Patrik Elias scored the game-deciding goal, Adam Henrique also scored and Martin Brodeur made 36 saves to earn the win. The Devils are playing in Anaheim for the first time since October 29, 2010 (W, 2-1).
The Devils have won three straight games vs. the Ducks (last loss, January 11, 2009, 4-3 at Anaheim).
