Game Notes

  • New Jersey has points in six of its last eight games (4-2-2).
  • On Sunday vs. Nashville, the team scored five goals for the first time this season/since April 20, 2012 vs. Florida (W, 6-2). The Devils won with a five-goal margin of victory for the first time since April 3, 2012 at Carolina (5-0).
  • New Jersey allowed a season-low 15 shots against on Sunday. The club is allowing an NHL-low 24.2 shots per-game (tie, Minnesota).
  • The Devils’ penalty-kill unit for 6/6 vs. Nashville on Sunday and is currently ranked sixth in the NHL (48/56, 85.7%).
  • Martin Brodeur will start in goal tonight. He made 15 saves and posted his second straight shutout/123rd of his career vs. the Predators on Sunday. It’s the eighth time that Brodeur has recorded a shutout in consecutive starts and the first time since April 3, 2010 at Carolina (26 saves) & April 6, 2010 at Atlanta (19 saves).
  • Jaromir Jagr recorded 1g-1a-2pts Sunday for his fourth multiple-point game. The points were the 1,700th and 1,701st of his NHL career (686g-1,1015a). Jagr becomes the eighth player in NHL history to reach the 1,700-pt. milestone. He now trails Mario Lemieux by just 22pts (690g-1,033a-1,723pts) for seventh place all-time.
  • Jagr’s goal was the eventual game-winner, the 120th of his career. He’s now just one behind Gordie Howe for the NHL record. The goal came just 1:30 into the contest, the team’s fastest goal to start a game this season (previously Adam Henrique, 1:57, at Philadelphia on November 7).
  • Marek Zidlicky scored a power play goal and added an assist on Sunday for his third multiple-point game of the year. He remains second on the team with 2g-9a-11pts this season.
  • On Sunday, Cam Janssen scored his second goal in three games since being recalled from Albany (AHL) last week. He had just three goals in his previous 312 career NHL contests.
  • Travis Zajac registered his 100th career goal Sunday night. It was his second goal of the season and first since October 17 at Ottawa.
  • Mattias Tedenby netted his first goal of the season on Sunday. It was his first NHL tally since December 8, 2011 vs. Ottawa.
  • Eric Gelinas picked up an assist on Zidlicky’s goal Sunday to extend his scoring streak to three games (3a).
  • Andy Greene assisted on Jagr’s goal Sunday and now has points in back-to-back games (2a).
  • Peter Harrold picked up the primary assist on Jagr’s goal Sunday, his first point of the season/since April 21 at the New York Rangers.
  • Stephen Gionta (sore foot) missed his first game of the season Sunday, ending his consecutive games played streak at 65. Jacob Josefson took his place in the lineup. Mark Fayne was the healthy scratch.

Devils vs. Rangers

  • Tonight’s game between the Devils and the Rangers marks the second of five meetings between the teams this season, and the first of two to be played at Madison Square Garden. New Jersey won the first game, 4-0, on Oct. 19 at Prudential Center, despite being out shot by New York, 22-19.
  • The Devils lead the all-time series vs. the Rangers 83-77-27, but are 29-44-20 in the previous 93 games played in New York.
  • In the first meeting, Jaromir Jagr and Marek Zidlicky each had 2a to lead the Devils and Andrei Loktionov scored the game-winning goal. Cory Schneider recorded his first shutout with New Jersey/tenth of his NHL career, while Henrik Lundqvist (15 saves) took the loss in goal for New York.
  • Jagr leads all New Jersey skaters in career scoring vs. the Rangers with 27g-53a-80pts in 62 games, while Brad Richards has 5g-33a-38pts in 43 games vs. the Devils to lead New York.
  • Martin Brodeur is 47-30-20 with 9 ShO, a 2.13 goals-against average and .912 save-percentage in 97 games vs. the Rangers, while Schneider is now 1-1-0 with a 0.50 GAA &  .928 save % vs. New York. Lundqvist is 28-13-5 with 7 ShO, a 1.82 GAA &  .934 save % in 46 contests vs. New Jersey.
