New Jersey won for the first time in 2013-14, snapping a team-record seven-game winless stretch (0-4-3) to open the season. The previous record for winless games to open a season was four: 2001-02 (0-4-0) and 1994-95 (0-3-1).
Cory Schneider (22 saves) earned his first win/shutout as a Devil. It was the 10th shutout of his career and first since April 8 vs. Phoenix (19 saves). Schneider was facing the New York Rangers for the first time in the regular season.
Andrei Loktionov scored his first goal of the season 7:22 into the contest. It was his first game-winning goal as a Devil and the third of his NHL career.
Adam Henrique, Michael Ryder (PP) and Dainius Zubrus also scored for New Jersey.
Ryder’s goal was his third of the year, tying him with Damien Brunner for the team-lead.
Jaromir Jagr recorded two assists, the 300th two-point game of his NHL career. He’s now seven points shy of 1,700 and needs just one appearance to reach the 1,400 games-played mark.
Marek Zidlicky also posted a pair of assists and leads the the team with 0g-7a-7pts on the year.
Rostislav Olesz earned his first point as a Devil with an assist on Henrique’s tally. It was his first NHL point since February 16, 2011 vs. Philadelphia (g).
Anton Volchenkov notched his third assist of the year on Loktionov’s marker to tie Jagr for second on the team behind Zidlicky.
Mark Fayne, playing for the first time since October 8 at Vancouver, was a +2 on the night.
Patrik Elias (ill) and Damien Brunner (upper body) each missed their first game of the season.
Ryane Clowe, who was placed on Injured Reserve on October 16, retroactive to October 13, missed his second straight game.
