World Championships Update

  • The 2013 IIHF World Championship began May 3 in Helsinki, Finland and Stockholm, Sweden. Ryan Carter (8GP 1g-1a-2pts, 8 PIM) and Stephen Gionta (8GP, 3g-0a-3pts, 2 PIM,  -1) are skating for Team USA, Ilya Kovalchuk (8GP, 8g-5a-13pts, +8) and Andrei Loktionov (7GP, 0g-1a-1pts, +6) represented Russia, Henrik Tallinder (7GP,  1g-1a-2pts, +5, 16PIM) is representing Sweden,  Marek Zidlicky (2GP, 0g-0a-0pts) played for the Czech Republic and prospect Artur Gavrus (3GP 0g-0a-pts, -1) skated for Belarus. Carter had 1g-1a-2pts as the U.S. defeated  Russia 8-3 in the Quarterfinal Round yesterday. Sweden defeated Canada, 3-2 in the shootout, while the Czech Republic lost to Switzerland, 2-1, yesterday as well. Finland  defeated Slovakia, 4-3, in the other Quarterfinal match. The United Stated will face Switzerland and Sweden will take on Finland in the Semifinals tomorrow.
