Game Notes

  • The Devils improved to 18-7-5 in openers all-time and 14-13-3 in road openers. They also won their season opener for the first time since 2008 (2-1 vs. NY Islanders). New Jersey is now 4-0 vs. the Isles in season-opening contests.
  • Martin Brodeur (18 saves) extended his own NHL record by appearing in his 18th consecutive opener with the same team.
  • Stefan Matteau became the 8th youngest player in Devils history at 18 years, 10 months and 27 days. He recorded 3 shots on goal in 7:26 of ice time.
  • Travis Zajac scored the team’s first goal of the season. Zajac, who missed the start of last season recovering from injury, also scored the Devils’ first goal of 2010-11 in their 4-3 OT loss vs. Dallas.
  • David Clarkson scored the game-winning goal. He led the team with 7 game-winners last season.
  • Henrik Tallinder and Anton Volchenkov were both +2.
